Nutritious red rice

Red rice is a type of ancient rice that contains red pigments such as tannins in the seed coat or pericarp. It has been used in religious ceremonies and festivals since ancient times. Compared to white rice, it is rich in protein and various vitamins and minerals.

In pursuit of safer rice production, rice bran extract (a moisturizing ingredient) is extracted from purple black rice grown without chemical fertilizers at TANABE FARM, an organic JAS-certified paddy field in Hiroshima Prefecture. At TANABE FARM, they are committed to producing rice that is kind to people and nature, and the rice is grown with love and care from planting to harvesting.

Organic JAS: A grading system based on the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS), and only farms and factories that meet the strict standards * are given this certification.

*An institution approved by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries inspects the produce based on several criteria, such as "no pesticides have been used for at least three years, no chemical fertilizers have been used, and no environmental damage has been caused by cultivation." As a result, only businesses that are deemed to meet the organic produce certification standards are certified.

It is said that in the past, red rice was used for sekihan. The gorgeous light pink color of the rice makes it perfect for celebratory meals and bento lunches.

How to make
  1. Measurement: Measure out 1 tablespoon of red rice for every 1 cup of white rice. Adjust the amount of white rice and red rice to your liking.
  2. Wash the white rice first. Then quickly wash the red rice and add it to the white rice.
  3. Use the same amount of water as when cooking white rice. If you soak the rice in water for 30 minutes to an hour, it will cook nice and fluffy.
  4. Loosen: Once steaming is finished, loosen the entire rice so that air is evenly absorbed.
